What is the difference between DKT Online and in-person practice?
NSW treats DKT Online as a separate interactive course and test for a C-class car learner licence. The official NSW practice-test page says its practice test is for the in-person DKT, not DKT Online. What format is the in-person car DKT?
The in-person DKT is a multiple-choice computer test. DKT Online, by contrast, is described by NSW as an interactive course and test that takes around 4–6 hours in total, combining learning modules with the assessment.
What happens if I don't pass?
For the in-person DKT, NSW requires a test fee for each attempt, so a fail means booking and paying again. For DKT Online, NSW says you pay one test fee up front, and if you don't pass you can go back through the modules to refresh your knowledge and retake the test after 12 hours. Treat a failed mock test in DrivePrep NSW as a signal to revisit specific categories, not a reason to stop practising.
Who can take the car DKT?
NSW allows enrolment in DKT Online from 15 years and 11 months, but you can only apply for a learner licence once you turn 16, and the in-person DKT also requires you to be 16 or older. Bring proof of identity documents when you go on to apply for your licence after passing.
